How to register / buy a domain name

Note: Before purchasing a domain name, we STRONGLY recommend reading our Domain tips guide.

If you choose an external registrar, purchase at a domain registrar — our preferred registrar is namecheap.com.

Option 1: Get a domain in your dashboard (recommended)

If you don't own a domain yet, you can buy one directly in your MMS dashboard:

  1. Go to Settings → Domains

  2. Click Get a domain

  3. Search for an available name and complete purchase

Your domain is pointed to MMS automatically — no manual DNS setup. You still need the custom domain service fee (10 USD/month while active). Domain registration cost is separate.

Option 2: Register at an external registrar

To register a domain name:

  1. Go to namecheap.com

  2. Enter a domain name into the search field in the middle of page and click search.

  3. If your domain name is NOT available (owned by someone else), it will show "Make Offer". Unless you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars (perhaps more) for your domain name, you'll want to continue searching for a different domain or chose one of the variations that namecheap will propose. If your domain IS available, add it to your cart by clicking the shopping cart icon.

  4. Click "View Cart":

  5. Leave the default settings as is - WhoisGuard (domain privacy) must be enabled.

  6. "Premium DNS extra service" is optional, but a good idea.

  7. Click "Confirm Order":

  8. Create an account and continue until complete.

Pointing your domain name

After registering your domain name, you'll need to point it to us. See this article for instructions.

SSL certificate

You do NOT need to purchase an SSL certificate. See this article for more info on SSL.
