Storage of your high-res original files

We offer the option to backup your original uploaded files. This is an optional Dropbox-style service.

Why would I want to backup my original videos?

There are a number of very important reasons to securely store your original files that you worked so hard on producing:

  • Backups

    • You'll have a backup in case you lose your phone or computer.

    • If you don't have your originals and need to get copies from platforms, they will be compressed, (reduced quality) and will likely be watermarked.

  • Watermarking

    • We will be releasing new watermarking features in the very near future. You will only be able to use these features if you store your original files.

      • You'll soon be able to re-style and customize your watermarks.

      • You'll soon be able to add member information to watermarks for video downloads.

  • Future optimizations

    • We'll be able to re-encode your videos using new and improved codecs like H.265 when we make that available.

What does it cost?

Storage cost depends on how much storage you are using.

  • 0-10 GBs - 0.069 USD per GB per month

  • 10-25 GBs - 0.046 per GB per month

  • 25-50 GBs - 0.040 per GB per month

  • 50+ GBs - 0.034 per GB per month

Are original files different from what is in my Vault and Library?

Yes, these are different. The original files were the files that you uploaded.

When you upload a video, we make multiple copies of that video that are streamed or downloaded by the member. The copy they receive depends on their Internet speed. So even if you were to delete the original videos, the copies would still remain in your Library and Vault.

So each video in your library is actually:

  1. One original video (the file that you uploaded) OPTIONAL STORAGE AVAILABLE

  2. One trailer (either uploaded or auto-created)

  3. One 4k version

  4. One 1080p version

  5. One 720p version

  6. One 480p version

Do other platforms store my original files?

No! Other popular platforms do NOT store your original files. They store your compressed/encoded files only. Often it will be watermarked too.

How to download the original files?

If you are storing your original files, they can easily be downloaded at any time by clicking the Download original file button in the video menu:


If I delete original files, will members still be able to download videos?

Yes, the files that are downloaded by members (if you offer that), are the optimized versions, they are NOT the original files.

What happens if I don't want to pay for original file backups?

If not paying for it, original files will be deleted.

How do I turn on/off original file storage?

In your dashboard, go to Settings > Original file backups
