UK choking law content compliance

As of November 6, 2026, UK laws forbid content that depicts strangulation, choking and suffocation. You can publish these content themes, as long as it adheres to our standard Content Policies, but the content will be blocked for site visitors using UK IP addresses or their location is detected in the UK.

To ensure your non-choking (compliant) content can be shown to UK users, you need to select the checkbox "Does NOT contain choking, strangulation or suffocation" on your Dashboard general content settings tab. If the checkbox is not checked (meaning the content does contain these non-compliant themes), it will be automatically blocked for users in the UK.

Right now these instructions are for videos only. On Monday November 9 it will also be available for photosets, stories, and on the site designer for images and videos. In the meantime, you can temporarily unpublish photosets, delete stories, and edit or replace your site designer images/videos if you want to protect your content from the UK.

Select Bulk edit > Edit details

Select the content that does NOT contain choking, strangulation or suffocation and click Edit button. Note: if all of your content does not contain this theme, you can check the "Select all" box in the top right corner.

Select checkbox "Does NOT include choking, strangulation or suffocation", and click Save changes button bottom of screen.

All content with this checkbox is also monitored by our image and video scanning detection software and will alert our support team for human review if content contains these themes, or any theme listed on this Content Policy. We will notify site admins if there are compliance issues.

If you have questions or would like the content to be reviewed before publishing, contact our Support team using the Live Chat.
