404 Error notifications

Updated over a week ago

Why did I receive a 404 error notification?

If a visitor to your website attempts to access a page that is not available, an error page will be shown, and you will receive an email notification. If these notifications are annoying or you don't want them, you can turn them off in your Dashboard "My account" settings https://dashboard.mymember.site/my-account?activeTab=notifications

Why does this happen?

This most often happens when creators have migrated to us from a different platform, and members are still using old links that they have bookmarked, or if they are clicking old links on other sites that are linking to your current site. Or, if a site link was typed or shared incorrectly where it's being promoted (social media post, social media profile link, tube site, another channel, etc.)

Should I be worried?

Not at all. 404 errors are not a big deal, but it's a good idea to fix the links. This will provide a better experience for your users, and will help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Also, users are auto-redirected to your site after 10 seconds.

What should I do?

When you receive a 404 error notification, you can click "Add a URL redirect" and type in your new site URL or a specific page on your current site where you want users to go to, such as the Videos page, or Photosets, page, or Store page, etc.

Write a Description to help you know and organize which type of redirect you're creating. "Incoming" is where you put the wrong/broken URL and "Redirect to" is whichever website page URL you want them to go to, or your website homepage.

How do I remove old links from Google?

When you set up URL redirects, search engines will eventually re-crawl your site and fix the issue automatically. You can update old links right away, however, using Google Search Console (this is for custom domains only).

What does the 404 notification email look like?

Here's a sample of an email notification. It includes the page the visitor landed on, and the site the visitor came from.
